Under traditional network service agreements, clients buy blocks of service time at a reduced rate. Any service needed is then charged against that pre-paid time, and when your bank of time runs out, so does your service – unless you buy more blocks. Such agreements do little to reduce computer downtime and increase reliability. There is simply no incentive to address problems before they cause downtime and service calls, and no true control of IT costs. Some providers even call their programs “managed services,” when there is no actual management involved. It’s an old-fashioned pre-paid service plan under a different name.
