Cloud based technology is in a constant state of change. New services followed by new hype, chased by falling prices. The question many ask is – “How low can they go?” The question that I ask – “How low can they afford to go and still remain in business?”
As a vendor I am contacted on a weekly basis in one form or another by cloud vendors pushing their wares, many sound too good to be true. Our partners like Microsoft, Citrix, and others have their solutions as well. I’m still not convinced that cloud-based services will be a long-term play. There’s going to be a lot of shake out of low-priced vendors and in the Midwest, the infrastructure has to improve in the rural towns like Sedalia to be able to trust that you’ll always be able to access your apps and data.
I’m not saying that you shouldn’t use the cloud. I am saying that you should always have a “Plan B”.
